    Living Lands Landscape and Design is an ecological
    landscaping company based in alberta.

    We are dedicated to preserving and building healthy habitat for people, plants and animals. We provide design, consultation, installation and education services.

    Our work focuses on building biodiverse green roofs in the urban core, ecological landscapes in backyards and on municipal lands, involvement in community restoration projects, and hands-on education about pollinators in the school and community.

    Who We Are

    Cynthia Pohl is a professional Journeyman Landscape Gardener and accredited Green Roof Professional.

    Cynthia has over 20 years of experience working with indigenous plants within the Central Alberta region.

    Her work in the green roof industry has a focus on biodiverse green roofs; roofs that are designed and planted specifically to increase local plant diversity and provide habitat (food and shelter) for wildlife.

    She has worked with counties, municipalities, schools and colleges providing pollinator awareness presentations and workshops, creating pollinator gardens and trails, and building hands-on student led projects.

    When we built our new office building in downtown Red Deer, we wanted to explore a green roof concept tied into a roof top gathering place. We were referred to Living Lands Landscape and Design who designed an environmentally friendly and responsible space, contributing to urban habitat sustainability. We have utilized LLL&D services to maintain the green roof and plant several large planters with vegetables and flowers for the staff and clients to enjoy throughout the summer, for the past 8 years.     Lacombe Composite High Schools EcoVision club has deeply benefited from the partnership with Living Lands Landscape and Design. Cynthia Pohl was able to utilize student ideas in the design of a beautiful solitary bee hotel and encouraged them to be part of the implementation of the hotel and gardens. Her expertise in our roof top landscaping has been very valuable in ECOVISION’s current project, Roofs 4 Kids, where she is designing a roof top garden on our baby goat barn.     Living Lands Landscape and Design (Cynthia Pohl) has been my gardening guru. Cynthia is an artist and, I think, a magician.

    Thanks to Cynthia my side garden has gone from grass, one tree, and a dying hedge to a beautifully balanced open garden with different levels and a wealth of plant species: tall, mid and low in height, a wide range of colours, some native and many non-native, and as well a rock ‘river’. I love my garden and so do my neighbours.
