Environmental Education

green ClasSROOM + FIELD PROJECTS in your school

Environmental Education is a process that allows students to explore environmental and natural resource issues, engage in problem solving, and begin student-led projects to improve their school environment.

As a result of participating in our Environmental Education projects learners develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and are introduced to the skills needed to build green infrastructure and make informed and responsible decisions for their own households and communities. These projects prepare students for a new green economy.

We work directly with elementary schools, high schools, colleges and universities to teach and provide leadership through Environmental Education workshops. We provide expertise to student-led hands-on projects involving pollinators and green infrastructure.

What Kind of projects do we do?

Each of our projects are designed to meet the curriculum from K-12.

pollinator habitats

Let’s visit outdoor spaces in and around your school to discover local pollinators! We will study their homes, their life cycles, and learn how to design and create pollinator habitat for your school grounds or backyard.

school yard greening

Students design and create a school yard habitat for local flora and animals. Students learn about living things and what they need to live and grow.

school edible food habitats

Let’s build a food garden together! We’ll learn about the growth cycle of plants, their parts, and their functions in our ecosystems. In growing food for ourselves, we will also learn about how many other living things a garden can feed.

outdoor classrooms

Outdoor classrooms are low-cost, flexible teaching spaces that allow for interaction with nature while learning. Learning in natural spaces is proven to help with information retention and has the potential to offer experiential learning in all subjects.

GREEN ROOF EDUCATION

Our green roof projects teach students what a green roof is, how they benefit the environment, and provide hands-on opportunities in the building of green roof models or full scale green roof projects. Students will visit local green roofs to experience these spaces in person.

...or whatever your students can dream up!

We can help you match your ideas to your curriculum.

Kind Words from customers

Lacombe Composite High Schools EcoVision club has deeply benefited from the partnership with Living Lands Landscape and Design. Cynthia Pohl was able to utilize student ideas in the design of a beautiful solitary bee hotel and encouraged them to be part of the implementation of the hotel and gardens. Her expertise in our roof top landscaping has been very valuable in ECOVISION’s current project, Roofs 4 Kids, where she is designing a roof top garden on our baby goat barn. I would highly recommend Cynthia Pohl because of her personal, expert and professional touch.

Lacombe Composite High School

I wanted to connect Olds College students with an industry leader in the horticulture field. Someone who consistently has Mother Nature in mind when designing a specialized landscape. Cynthia Pohl, of Living Lands Landscape Design is that leader. She shares with every learner, the importance of intentional observation of the site in question. She explains the importance of all species when considering a design for a location. All learners I have connected with Cynthia are grateful for the valuable guidance and cutting-edge expertise shared.
